The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, is a not-for-profit association representing more than 81,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services.

The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association is dedicated to promoting integrity and excellence in veterinary medicine; providing the highest quality continuing education programs and conferences; supporting its members through public relations and marketing efforts to the public and governing officials; and listening and lobbying on behalf of the interests to the entire profession and serve as an advocate and voice for veterinary medicine in the state.

AAHA – American Animal Hospital Association

The American Animal Hospital Association is a national organization devoted to promoting excellence in small animal veterinary medical care and continuing education. It sets rigid standards for both individual veterinary membership and for hospital membership. Small Animal Medicine & Surgery has been an AAHA Accreditated Hospital since 1993 and continues to undergo on site inspections to keep accreditation current.
