Coronavirus and Your Pet’s Care
At Small Animal Medicine & Surgery, we want you to know that we have your pet’s health care in mind during this time of uncertainty with the spread of Coronavirus. We are closely monitoring and following recommendations from the CDC, WHO, AVMA and state and local agencies to help keep you, your pets, and our staff healthy. Whether you are sick, may be sick, or don’t want to potentially be exposed (especially if you’re in a high-risk group) by being too close to other people, we are here to accommodate you with your pet’s needs.
- Staff members have been instructed not to come to work if they have a fever or any signs of respiratory illness.
- If your pet has routine (wellness) healthcare that is due, please call to talk to our staff about whether some of this care can or should be postponed for a little while.
- If your pet is sick or injured, give us a call to schedule an appointment. We will be scheduling to ensure that our clients can keep their distance from each other during their visit.
- We request that only one person accompany the pet inside, someone that can make decisions about the pet’s care. If you must bring family members, we request that you follow the procedures below. Have everyone stay in the vehicle, and we will come get the patient.
- Let us know if you will need special accommodations due to being in a high-risk group (immunosuppressed, age-related, etc.). We will get information over the phone as to the nature of the illness or injury. You will be instructed to call when you arrive, and a staff member will come out to your vehicle to take your pet inside to be examined. An estimate will be given by phone, and you will be able to make choices, as always, about your pet’s healthcare. Payment may be taken right at your car.
- If you have a fever or flu-like symptoms, please let us know when you call, and we will accommodate you as above.
- You can also pick up medications and prescription diets in the same way. We will bring them right to your car. Many of you already use our online pharmacy, VetSource, which is always a good option to have medications and food delivered right to your home.
As always, SAMS staff will be maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness – cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms and equipment between each appointment, wiping down common areas (countertops, seating, etc.), and of course, washing hands and arms between cuddles!
