Cute Ways to Spoil a Bunny

August 1 2020

Have you recently adopted a pet rabbit? Floppy is an adorable and fun little pet. However, if you’ve never had a bunny before, you’re likely going to be facing a learning curve. One thing that new bunny owners are often delighted to learn about is the binkie. A binkie is basically a bunny happy dance. Think of it as the rabbit version of a purr or tail wag. How does one score a binkie? A Salisbury, NC vet offers a few suggestions below.

Hopstacle Course

It’s no secret that bunnies love to jump and hop. Make Floppy her own little obstacle course. You can use things like footstools, storage totes, and ottomans. Rearrange these things regularly to keep things fresh and fun for your furry friend.

Dig Boxes

Many rabbits love to dig and paw through things. Fill a cardboard box with shredded or crumpled-up pieces of paper, and stash a few toys in it. If you’re willing to put up with a bit more of a mess, you can actually fill a box with dirt, and put some toys in that. (This would be something you’d want to do on a patio.)

Treats

A special snack will definitely brighten up Floppy’s day. You may find that your furry buddy has a bit of a sweet tooth. While you shouldn’t give your rabbit too much sugar, there’s no reason she can’t occasionally enjoy some safe fruit, such as a few strawberries, some dried pineapple, or a piece of banana or melon. Just be sure to research new foods before giving them to your fuzzy friend. Not everything is safe for bunnies! Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Toys

Rabbits are both playful and curious, so it’s no surprise that they love toys. Offer Floppy plenty of playthings, including lots of suitable chew toys.

Playtime

Rabbits need daily time out of their cages. Make sure that your bunny gets several hours of recess every day. This is a great chance to spend time with your furry little friend. Floppy is actually quite emotional, and can form very strong bonds with her humans. However, that bond needs to be nurtured. Pay lots of attention to Floppy, and you’ll be scoring binkies in no time!
