February Is National Cat Health Month

February 15 2022

The first couple months of a new year can be a time of renewed focus on the things that matter most. Our feline companions fall in that category, so now is a good time to focus on the health and well-being of your Kitty. In recognition of National Cat Health Month, try to make it a point to do all the things that will help your cat live a healthier, happier, and longer life.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind along the way:

Feed Kitty a High-Quality Diet

Cats have specific nutritional requirements that change with their lifestyle and age. Be sure to feed Kitty high-quality food that helps her maintain a healthy weight and meets her daily nutrition needs. We can help you with this.

Stay on Top of Your Cat’s Dental Health

Brushing a cat’s teeth can be a challenge, but oral hygiene is an important part of your cat’s health. At the very least, make it a point to schedule Kitty for regular exams and teeth cleanings.

Monitor Your Cat’s Weight

Being overweight can negatively impact your cat’s health so make sure to have lots of things for Kitty to do, especially if she’s an indoor cat. This can include playtime with wand toys, interactive feeds, and Kitty towers.

Pay Attention to Litterbox Habits

What your cat leaves behind in the litterbox and her litterbox habits can reveal early signs of illness. If Kitty has problems using the box, starts urinating more often (or less often), or her stool looks different than usual, it’s time to take her to the vet.

Groom Kitty Regularly

Brushing or combing Kitty on a regular basis is a good way to stay abreast of any issues that may arise with her skin and claws. It also allows you and Kitty to build a strong, loving bond.

Schedule an Annual Wellness Check

Annual wellness checks help your vet spot early signs of illness, so it’s important to keep these appointments. They’re also a good time to ask any questions you may have about daily cat care.

Keep Kitty’s Vaccinations Up-to-Date

Keeping your cat’s vaccinations and booster shots up-to-date helps protect Kitty from serious illnesses, especially if she regularly spends time with other cats.
